About the MOW
Each year, the TNT Running Club awards the dubious honor of Man of Winter to the Turtle with the toughest shell. The fun begins with the annual Thanksgiving Run and is decided upon in March. It's description follows:
Although attendance at Turtle runs and events counts heavily, beyond that the MOW award is about toughness, discipline, and strength of character - the ability to deal with all of winter's harshness, no matter what the weather, without complaint, and with a quiet, unwavering display of mettle, moxie, and grit. The MOW sets goals and strives diligently to achieve them, persevering fearlessly in the face of adversity.
Besides determination, resolve, and willingness to sacrifice, the Turtle MOW personifies loyalty to TNT and pride in being a member - one who is a dependable and steadfast supporter of fellow Turtles and who embodies the true spirit of Turtledom, as epitomized by Mark Mitsmenn when he set the standard for MOW back in 1994.
Each year a plaque will be awarded. The plaque will commemorate past award winners, with room to engrave future winners as well. In 2003, the plaque was recommissioned in honor of our friend, Howie Mackie, who was tragically killed during a training run. Each winner will be granted temporary custody of this plaque, until a new winner is named. As always, the competition was close. Ultimately one rose to the top in the eyes of the selection committee and our "Man" of Winter for 2008/2009 is.....Bob Jackman.
Previous Winners
Past honorees in the Howie Mackie Man of Winter Award have proven themselves in many ways. From the daunting task of setting and keeping goals in the worst of conditions, to donning the crown on coronation evening. For that, turtles raise a glass and toast your past MOW recipients.
