Providence, RI - Three of Rhode Island's most well-known and experienced race directors have joined forces and will execute the 2009 Amica Marathon this fall in Newport, RI.

Rhode Island's legendary race directors Charlie Breagy, Dan Gough and Bob Rothenberg have teamed up to lead the 2009 Amica Marathon, slated for Sunday, Oct.18, 2009 in Newport. The announcement was made today by Eident Sports Marketing. Amica Insurance is the Title Sponsor of the event.

Together, the trio has over 50 years of experience directing major running events in the Ocean State.

"Their names are synonymous with running events in Rhode Island. We are excited to have Charlie, Dan and Bob behind the Amica Marathon," said John Mathews, president, Eident Sports Marketing. "With their knowledge and experience, we certainly can expect a first-rate running event in the City by the Sea."

Breagy oversees several of Rhode Island's major running events, including the upcoming inaugural St. Pat's 5k, Cox Providence Rhode Races and CVS Caremark Downtown 5K. He, along with Rothenberg, directs the New Balance Ocean State Invitational, the largest high school cross country race in New England.

"To have the opportunity to work together with Bob and Danny on the Amica Marathon is a privilege. We all bring something different to table. Together, I am certain we will be able to execute a top notch race that runners will flock to annually," said Breagy.

Rothenberg's lengthy resume includes 17 years as the men's and women's track and cross country coach at Brown University. He currently heads up the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Track & Field Championships.

"The three of us bring a wealth of experience to the table," said Rothenberg. "We are excited to work collectively on the Amica Marathon and bring this event to the next level."

Gough, a world class marathon runner himself, has also directed several area racing events.

"I am thrilled to be able to join forces with Bob and Charlie to execute the Amica Marathon," said Gough. "Participants can expect a well-run event that will be directed with the runners best interest in mind."

The 2009 Amica Marathon is a Boston Marathon qualifier. The event includes a marathon, a half marathon and a team-relay competition.

The Amica Marathon offers runners a historic and scenic course. The route begins in downtown Newport, runs alongside Newport harbor, past picturesque Ocean Drive and along historic Bellevue Avenue. The second half of the 26.2 mile course runs besides the Sakonnet River. The finish line is at scenic Easton's Beach.

The Hyatt Regency Newport (http://newport.hyatt.com) will serve as the Host Hotel for the Amica Marathon. The Hyatt Regency will host the expo and race registration.
